High School Updates

SOAR

40 students in grades 9-12 represent Central Lee High School on the Student SOAR leadership team. This team meets weekly to plan and prepare monthly activities for the student body that both incentivize and reinforce students to do the right thing, both in and out of school.

In February alone, the Student SOAR Team participated in a leadership retreat, sold Valentine treats, and celebrated Random Acts of Kindness week with several activities. We want every student at Central Lee to know that they belong here, and that they can be a leader!

Not only do we want students to leave Central Lee with confidence and leadership skills, we also have committed to all students graduating with a clear path and plan for life after high school. Career and college readiness is our overarching goal. We have implemented several new classes, including college concurrent enrollment courses, around the topics of employability skills, job shadowing, career awareness, exploration, and preparation.

4 Years of Opportunity

Students begin preparing for college and careers the moment they start 9th grade, rooted in a leadership-focused curriculum and career exploration advisories. During freshman year, students participate in career-based contests, explore a college and career planning guide, and can begin participating in career and technical student organizations.

In their sophomore year, students take part in a career exploration course, hear from professional guest speakers, take business and industry tours, and visit Southeastern Community College.

During junior year, students can participate in the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) career exploration program, attend a skilled trades expo, learn about resume writing, and participate in job shadowing experiences. Juniors can also begin visiting colleges and engage in concurrent enrollment courses, earning college credit while still in high school.

In their senior year, students continue all the programs and opportunities that have been available to them throughout high school. Seniors also engage in mock interviews, finalize their resumes, and apply for scholarships. Additional opportunities available to seniors include work-study programs, work-based learning experiences, extended job shadows, and SCC certification programs.

Central Lee High School’s Excellent Electives

We provide an expansive elective curriculum beyond core academics. From fine arts to FFA, students can learn skills, gain knowledge, and expand their interest in a variety of topics. While beginning online college courses for elective credits holds merit, Central Lee electives provide authentic, real-world exposure and the opportunity to practice the skills needed in everyday adult life. We highly encourage students to get involved in one or more of the numerous elective clusters that CLHS provides in-house.

Our elective clusters include Physical Education (required .5 credit per academic year), Art, Music, Agriculture, Building Trades, Business, Computer Science, and Family and Consumer Science. Central Lee partners closely with SCC for other electives, such as Healthcare or Automotive. Central Lee’s in-house elective opportunities provide a strong curriculum and are taught by high-quality, skilled teachers with special training in their areas.
