Residents of the Central Lee Community School District will consider renewing the district’s Revenue Purpose Statement (RPS) on Tuesday, March 3.
An RPS specifies how a school district may use its annual disbursement of statewide one-cent sales tax revenue provided through Iowa’s Secure an Advanced Vision for Education fund, commonly known as SAVE.
If approved, the RPS would continue to provide the district with flexibility to leverage SAVE funds for various school-related needs, including facility improvements, safety and security upgrades, technology purchases, transportation, and other infrastructure priorities permitted by state law.
Renewing the district’s RPS would not create a new tax for district residents, nor would it lead to an increase in the current property or sales taxes. The vote does not change the amount of SAVE revenue the district receives, but instead provides local authorization for how the existing funds may be used to best meet district needs now and in the future.
“The Revenue Purpose Statement gives our district the flexibility to continue using SAVE funds in ways that most directly support student learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Andy Crozier. “From maintaining safe, functional facilities to investing in technology and infrastructure that support classroom instruction, these funds help ensure we can meet the needs of our students today while planning responsibly for the future.”
Approval of an RPS requires a simple majority. If the measure is renewed, it will remain in effect until 2051.
Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on election day. Polling locations and other voting information can be found at https://sos.iowa.gov/elections-voting.
Residents with questions about the Revenue Purpose Statement are encouraged to contact the Central Lee Community School District for more information.
