Voters in the Central Lee Community School District approved the renewal of the district’s Revenue Purpose Statement (RPS) on March 3, authorizing continued use of statewide one-cent sales tax revenue for school infrastructure and related needs through 2051.

The measure passed by a simple majority, with 87 percent of the votes in favor of the measure. The renewal allows the district to continue directing funds received through Iowa’s Secure an Advanced Vision for Education fund, commonly known as SAVE, toward priorities permitted by state law.

“We are grateful to our community for supporting the renewal of the Revenue Purpose Statement,” said Superintendent Dr. Andy Crozier. “This will allow us to continue using SAVE funds in ways that directly support student learning, maintain safe and functional facilities, and invest responsibly in the future of our schools. We appreciate the trust our community has placed in us.”

An RPS specifies how a school district may use its annual disbursement of SAVE revenue. With voter approval, Central Lee will maintain flexibility to use the funds for facility improvements, safety and security upgrades, technology purchases, transportation, and other infrastructure needs.

The renewal does not create a new tax and does not increase existing property or sales taxes. It also does not change the amount of SAVE revenue the district receives. Instead, it provides local authorization for how the existing funds may be used.

The renewed RPS will remain in effect until 2051. Residents with questions about the Revenue Purpose Statement may contact the district office for additional information.
