K8 Guidance Counselor Update

I have really enjoyed getting to see our new and returning students throughout the start of this school year!

I began the first couple weeks of school the same way I have for the past two years: by taking Atari, the school therapy dog, into each K-5 classroom to review the rules and expectations when students are around her. The students enjoy seeing Atari whenever we’re in their classrooms, in the hallways, or in guidance lessons with her. If I’m not with her, I am sure to be asked, “Where’s Atari?”

Last year, Atari started visiting several classrooms weekly. She would often lay next to students while they read, walk around the room as students learned, and play outside at recess as a reward for students. Atari is continuing weekly visits this year, so you might have had a student tell you about having Atari in their classroom.

In the second week of school, I had the opportunity to host a ‘Welcome to Central Lee’ lunch for all our new grade 1-8 students. Students were able to invite one new friend that they have made to accompany them at the special lunch. The new students shared some facts about themselves, the school they came from, and something they have enjoyed about Central Lee so far. I loved to hear all their great answers. Of course, we had to end the lunch with ice cream sandwiches!

Depending on when you are reading this, I may be on maternity leave, as I am having my baby in early October. Therefore, I will be unavailable until I return to work. If there is anything you may need to help support your child socially or emotionally while I am gone, please call the K-8 office, and they will direct you to someone who can help.

Upon my return, I will pick up where I left off, continuing monthly guidance lessons with grades K-5, meeting with students one-on-one as needed, and starting some small groups when the need arises.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you have for your child. Let’s have a great 2022-23 school year!
