Fall into a book

Fall into a book!

It’s officially fall, and the K-8 library is busier than ever as students fall in love with reading. While the youngest are excited to learn to read a book by themselves, the older students are graduating to longer chapter books and discovering whole new worlds where mystery and adventures await! Another sign of fall is the arrival of the big truck with the big red dog on it, signaling our annual fall book fair. The Scholastic truck with Clifford arrived on October 17 with many crates and boxes full of exciting new arrivals!

On Friday, October 21, we held our Grand Brunch. Last spring, we were unable to hold our Grand Brunch due to inclement weather causing a school closing. We were excited for this year’s return of the Grand Brunch after several years without it! This is an exciting time of the year for students — they love saving up their allowances, birthday money, or money found in the couch to “buy” at the book fair. We enjoy seeing the students’ enthusiasm while browsing all the different reading options available!

Besides being well-received by all and providing new books for the library, this event allows us to continue our dollar book sales. During these sales, students may purchase a new book for $2, or 3 books for $5 to add to their home libraries. As always, we appreciate the outpouring of support and sales throughout this fall’s book fair. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its success!

If you visit our library, you will see that it is not the traditional quiet reading hub of the past. A noisy library is a busy library, and a busy library means children are enjoying books! As a reminder, we are always open for visitors and welcome parents/guardians to reach out if they would like to read to a class. The library, and students, would be glad to have you. Thank you again to everyone who supports our book fairs which, in turn, supports students’ love for reading.

Visit our library any time, and keep reading!
