K8 Guidance Update

I am delighted to be back this fall and to see the smiling faces of our wonderful students once again. When I'm asked what I cherish most about my job, I always respond that the most rewarding aspect is the privilege of working with students ranging from preschool to 8th grade. This makes each day in my job uniquely enriching and fulfilling.

When visiting elementary students, I can count on receiving warm hugs and the age-old question, "Where's Atari?" – a reference to our beloved school therapy dog. This fall was no exception as I began my usual back-to-school routines. As always, I took Atari on a tour of the elementary classrooms to reintroduce her and reinforce the expectations for students when they are around her. Additionally, I had the pleasure of visiting all classes during my 'Success for Learning Lessons,' previously known as guidance lessons. This opportunity allows me to engage with the classes monthly, fostering a deeper connection with the students and collectively growing in the 7 Habits together.

Transitioning to the middle school halls provides a different atmosphere compared to the elementary halls. It's neither good nor bad, just different! Instead of hugs, I'm greeted with smiles, high fives, and the occasional "hey bruh" (a term I'm sure all middle school parents can appreciate). Middle school has kept me busy with our Peer Leaders program, where our middle school students work with their younger peers in the elementary classrooms. Walking down the elementary hallways and the commons area, I'm always delighted to see these interactions.

In the spirit of welcoming new faces, I have enjoyed getting to know our new district students a little better. During the second week of school, I invited them and a new friend to join me for lunch. Building connections with new students and helping them feel more at ease in our school environment is always a gratifying experience.

One of my significant undertakings this fall has been establishing our 2023-2024 Student SOAR Team. Fifteen students in grades 6-8 were selected to lead our middle school through a rigorous application and interview process. We've already had several meetings, and the team has demonstrated exceptional dedication in planning events and fundraisers. One exciting event on the horizon is a "Pie in the Face" competition, where students can vote for an adult they'd like to see get a pie in the face during our Homecoming assembly. I'm eagerly looking forward to witnessing their further accomplishments throughout the year.

While my schedule may be quite full with these responsibilities, I want to emphasize that I am always available to meet one-on-one with your child if the need arises. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me through ClassDojo, email, or by calling the school.

As always, I encourage you to get in touch with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child's well-being and academic journey. Your partnership and involvement in your child's education are invaluable to us.
