Industrial Arts

The 2023-24 school year is off to a fantastic start in Industrial Arts, and our students have hit the ground running with various ongoing projects! Since day one, our dedicated students have been working diligently, and everything is progressing smoothly.

This year's off-campus project is a brand-new Spec home located in Franklin, which is being constructed by our Carpentry 3 and 4 students. Students have made significant progress with most of the framing completed, and they have shifted their focus to installing exterior finishes. The house boasts 1850 square feet of living space, including a basement, and features an attached 26'x30' garage. Soon, our students will collaborate with subcontractors to install plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. Our goal is to take this home to a turnkey state, with the hope of completing it by the end of May.

Meanwhile, our Carpentry 2 students have been hard at work finishing projects on campus. Notable accomplishments include the construction of the football press box and the new pump house on the north side of the Ag Annex. Students have participated in a wide range of tasks, from interior finishes to insulation and framing, and even concrete pouring. Upon completing these projects, students will shift their focus to several other on-campus initiatives.

Our Carpentry 1 students have successfully completed their construction math course, along with safety training and mastering the use of various saws. They are currently working on their sawhorse project, and upon completion, they will dive into an OSHA safety course. Next, they will begin learning blueprint reading.

In the Walls and Ceilings class, our students have been progressing through the curriculum according to schedule. Students have completed hanging all the drywall and have begun the finishing process. They have also successfully completed the pre-fill and tape coat stages and are ready to begin the second coating of joints. Their ultimate goal is to achieve a Level 5 finish before moving on to texture and paint their room.

We're excited about the progress our students have made so far, and we look forward to their continued growth and success throughout the school year.
