The Central Lee High School baseball team has arranged to play a game at Mt. Pleasant for tomorrow night, marking the first game of the year. JV kicks things off at 5 pm followed by the varsity game at 7 pm.

There is still time to donate your gently worn, used, and/or new shoes for the shoe drive fundraiser. Donations can be dropped off at the High School or K8 building. May 18th is the last day, so be sure to clean out your closets and send those shoes in!

Today is the Graduation March Parade! 🚗 Participants will line up at the high school, then drive through Montrose and Donnellson. After the parade, graduates and their families are invited to the baccalaureate service at the UCC Church in Donnellson. Hawk Place experienced a few more new experiences the last month. We made homemade applesauce, Amish Friendship Bread, learned from a Money Management activity visiting a grocery store to find the best meal with the least money spent and a second hand clothing store to find the most inexpensive outfit. The event they seemed to enjoy the most was the cooperative helping hands activity. Students partnered up with one being the hands of the other student. The "helping hand" student closed their eyes and tried to feed their partner cereal, brush their teeth, comb their hair, and shave or put on makeup with directions from the "seeing" partner. ( razor with blade removed - safety first). Along with these fun learning activities students enjoyed crazy hair by the Impulse Dance Team and celebrated Ms. Abby's graduation.

REMINDER: Central Lee CSD will not host an in-person registration day this summer. Registration will be online only. Registration opens on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Each year, 4th graders work with their classroom teacher to select a person who made a significant contribution to the world to learn more about. They spend time researching for facts in order to write biographical paragraphs to share as an oral presentation. Mrs. Ann Canida works with each student to create an art project to represent their research that provides wonderful visual impact. Students embody their special person for this event with costumes and Mrs. Heather Madsen teaches songs that tie to many of the chosen historical characters. Parents are invited to school to watch the whole group music and individual biography performances. As always, seeing our students get excited about learning and wanting to share that learning with others makes us #Proud2bCL!

The Central Lee FFA installed the 2023-2024 FFA officers at their annual banquet recently. (Back row) Mr. Noah Altenhofen-Ag-Ed Instructor/FFA Advisor, Ward Fraise-Treasurer, Dustin Newberry-3rd Vice-President, Andrew Underwood-Vice-President, Alan Bollin-Sentinel and Tom Boeck, Ag-Ed Instructor/FFA Advisor. The leadership of the Central Lee FFA organizes a challenging calendar of activities for the membership. Chapter officers serve a vital function in FFA. By taking a major leadership role, these students grow from the experience and benefit the chapter. It should be the officers’ goals to lead by example and encourage other members to participate in chapter activities. The following are general duties expected of all officers: • A genuine desire to be part of a leadership team. • A willingness to accept responsibility. • A sincere desire to work with all chapter members in meeting their leadership, personal and chapter goals.• A commitment to lead by example. • Knowledge and understanding of the chapter, state and national FFA constitutions, bylaws and programs. • A working knowledge of parliamentary procedure. • The ability to memorize official ceremonies. It is always a pleasure to receive Honorary members into the Central Lee FFA. It is our intent and purpose to recognize the efforts of individuals on our behalf. According to the FFA Constitution, farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of school boards of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in Ag-Ed, businessmen, and others who are helping advance agriculture and the FFA, and who have rendered outstanding service, may be elected to honorary membership. This year, we would like to recognize those community members who have provided behind the scenes support and have been very instrumental in the success of our chapter. They have advanced our chapter program by giving ideas and offering any possible support while they recognize the importance of agriculture in Iowa. May 12 is School Communicators Day! We would like to recognize this day by sharing some words from Superintendent Andy Crozier: "For every piece of communication we send out, there are countless people behind the scenes who take part in perfecting our message. Whether it be editors, graphic designers, social media experts, and/or communication strategists,” Crozier says. “All of these individuals help us be better communicators with our stakeholders. We are grateful for their talents and time on School Communicator's Day! Thank you!"

For one of the Career Thursdays this month Hawk Place enjoyed Furry and Feathered Friends careers. Guests from Lee County Veterinary Care, Timber Valley Ranch Boer Goats, PAWS, and Central Lee's first grade chick project shared their careers and the pets they brought along. The students loved holding baby chicks, listening to the heartbeat of a dog, petting goats and learning many of the names of the animals available at PAWS. Some students donated items for PAWS also. Thank you to these business for giving their time for the kids.
