National Scholarship Month
October was a busy month for Hawk Place packed with Halloween fun along with some learning. The younger students enjoyed a career parade through the Montrose Care Center dressed in their "career" choices. As our monthly RAK (Random Act of Kindness) Hawk Place gifted the residents with bags of Halloween candy for giving out on Halloween. This was a good lesson of the enjoyment of giving to others and not always receiving. Iowa State Extension again brought some STEM activities to the students and the older kids enjoyed pumpkin carving at the Elliott Test Kitchen. Ending the month, the students were excited to accept an invitation to trick or treat at River Hills Village in costumes for the residents' enjoyment with the added bonus of some treats and a surprise "scare" from a gorilla hiding behind a curtain. Thank you to all for having us.

Seniors and Juniors in the Central Lee Music Department had the chance to visit Iowa Wesleyan College on October 26th. Fifteen students took advantage of the trip and toured the campus, talked with an admissions counselor, the athlete director, music department faculty and students while participating in one of the concert choir rehearsals with director Blair Buffington. This was a chance for the students to visit a local university and to learn the process for admission to post-secondary education.
