Aubrey Weber of the Central Lee Agricultural Education department and FFA program at Central Lee High School is pictured with her beef production SAE project(Supervised Agricultural Experience Program). Aubrey manages 40 acres of row crop ground as well for an additional SAE. The Supervised Agricultural Experience projects are an extension of the Agricultural Education program at Central Lee Community Schools. Experiential and work-based learning in school based agricultural education allows local programs to extend beyond the classroom and into the community in order to develop an individual student’s industry and career-based competencies. The methodology for delivering such high quality experiential learning is the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). The SAE is a required component of a total Agricultural Education program and intended for every student. Through their involvement in the SAE program students are able to consider multiple careers and occupations, learn expected workplace behavior, and develop specific skills within an industry, and are provided opportunities to apply academic and occupational skills in the workplace or a simulated workplace environment. Through these strategies, students learn how to apply what they are learning in the classroom as they prepare to transition into the world of college and career opportunities. #CTEworksforCL

It’s Learn a Foreign Language Month! We’re so proud of our students who study and excel in foreign languages. By pursuing fluency in another language, students hone valuable skills that can benefit them long after graduation. We encourage everyone to work toward learning another language—you may be surprised where the experience takes you!

The Central Lee FFA harvested the 45 acre land lab recently. Sharing in the “hands on” experience was the Central Lee Elementary Hawks Place program. Central Lee FFA members include Dustin Newberry(far left) Blake Lindsay(combine cab), and Kaden Show(far right). The Agricultural Education IV classes at Central Lee make all management decisions on the land lab and the lab is utilized in many aspects of the agriculture curriculum. We thank Sinclair Tractor for use of a combine to expose students to current technologies in agriculture. #CTEworksforCL

Aspiring teacher, Elaina Lozano, is able to gain valuable teaching experience in our first grade classrooms here at Central Lee. As a student in the work-based learning class through the Career and College Readiness Program, Elaina is able to have the advantage of having a meaningful experience in an elementary classroom. She will be able to take that experience and the skills she has learned and apply them to her teacher education program courses. It have been a great opportunity for her to discover her passion. #CTEworksforCL

Due to Thanksgiving break last week we had career guest on Monday instead of Thursday. The three Central Lee alumni guest were invited to share their talents/career with our theme "It's a bird, It's a plane .. No.. It's a DRONE! ". The kids were very excited to have as our guest, Dan Workman with his hobby drone. He entertained the kids by showing them how it can take pictures from way above and even allowing a few students to operate it. Guest Brent Koller, Hawk Place parent and teacher at Central Lee, gave students a demonstration also and held unexpected "drone/ student relays" with the students chasing the drone into the sunset. Our other guest, Dylan Stuecker totally enthralling the students with his crop dusting drone, definitely a much bigger version than the two previous drones. The kindergarten students could hardly contain themselves from the excitement and anticipation of seeing this huge drone launch into the sky. We want to thank all three of these guests for coming and giving their time for these kids.

Thank you to Lee County Conservation for visiting for our "Who will speak for the Trees" career day this past week. The Hawk Place students were introduced to the animals in their care as one of the responsibilities of a conservation career. The turtle and the snakes were the highlight, although some were more hesitant than others when they were allowed to "pet" them.

We live in rural Iowa but some of our students have not lived the farm life. They have seen farm animals and the "big combine" in the fields but not been around to experience it themselves. Thursday, FFA members, Aubrey Weber and Dustin Newberry, were our guests for our "Thank a Farmer" Career Day at Hawk's Place. The younger students enjoyed slides showing the field process from planting to harvesting as well as a question/ answer session with the high school students. Today, despite the cold brisk walk to the field, their excitement showed through squeals of delight sending them racing to the field as the combine in the near distance pulled up and the corn came flowing out into the wagon, making the cold all worth it. Thank you to Tom Boeck, Brent Koller and the FFA members for giving of their time for the kids to experience this.
