Happy Pi Day! 🥧

Every year on March 14, we celebrate the mathematical constant that helps us make sense of circles and spheres. Pi never ends and never repeats, reminding us that there's always more to learn and discover.

Our students know this number well!

📚🇺🇸 Read Across America Week Fun at Central Lee Elementary!

Our Little Hawk Preschoolers and Kindergarteners had a wonderful time celebrating Read Across America Week right alongside students across the nation!

From dress up days filled with smiles and imagination to a special treat served by our amazing Central Lee High School FFA members, the week was full of joyful learning. Students even had the chance to try green eggs and ham and cast their vote with a big thumbs up or thumbs down on whether it was a hit! 🍳👍👎

Each day also included a special moment as Mrs. Fuger shared a read aloud through her daily video message, bringing stories and smiles into classrooms across our building.

At Central Lee Elementary, we love taking time to celebrate reading and learning together while building memories that help our young Hawks grow into lifelong readers.

✨ Shine Bright & Lead the Way, High-5 Hawks! 📖💛🖐️

The Central Lee Music Department had a busy and successful day on Saturday, March 7.

The middle school show choir Adrenaline began the day by competing at the Stars in the Spotlight Show Choir Festival in Fort Madison, where they earned 3rd place. This was the group’s second and final competition of the season. Adrenaline’s next performance will be at the annual Swing Show on April 11. Tickets are available through the CLHS music office.

Later in the day, the Central Lee High School Jazz Band traveled to Washington to compete in the SEIBA District Jazz Festival. This marked the first time Central Lee students have participated in a district jazz festival in over five years. The band earned 3rd place in the 2A division, with Austin Fogarty, Jackson Bowen, and Rylan Warner recognized as Outstanding Soloists.

Following the jazz festival, the high school students returned to Fort Madison for the C-Force show choir performance later that evening. C-Force earned 1st place in Class 2A, advancing to their fourth evening finals appearance of the season. Performing at 9:00 p.m., the group finished as 4th Runner-Up in the finals competition.

This weekend marked the end of the competitive season for the music department’s extracurricular programs. Central Lee students have represented their school with pride throughout the year.

The success of the program is truly a community effort. From student musicians to costume parents, crew members, van and bus drivers, chaperones, parent committees, community sponsors, and volunteers, many people contribute their time and support. The music department is grateful to everyone who helped make this season possible. Thank you for a wonderful season.

Central Lee Family,

There have been a few moments in the past ten years that have had the magnitude of taking one’s breath away. Passing our GO bond was one of those days, and receiving the “High Performing” ranking as a district was another. This past weekend added to the list of positive memories of this district that I will never forget.

If you attended or volunteered at the Central Connections Show Choir competition on Saturday, you understand the magnitude of the event and saw firsthand the number of people needed to create a positive experience for our guests.

Let’s run down a few of the numbers from this weekend: 36 performances, 24 schools, 1,400 student performers, 100+ volunteers, and much more. I can’t even begin to quantify how many hamburgers, sodas, energy drinks, and other items were sold in the cafeteria. The line was never short.

Six months ago, Director Tracy Madsen came to me with a wild idea to take our event and double it by adding another performance center. He presented a schedule and plan that showed both gyms being used for performances and utilizing EVERY inch of our high school building and district parking lots. It was an audacious plan and, honestly, a bit crazy. If you know Tracy, you know he is not afraid of trying new things, and he certainly can plan major events with a laser focus on detail. We trusted him to pull this off, and he did so with an army of volunteers.

The support from our volunteers ultimately made me the most proud on Saturday. Yes, our show choir and band parents showed up and worked long hours. I know a few of them who arrived at 6:00 a.m. and left at 12:30 a.m., walking more than 36,000 steps. You cannot downplay their service by any means. We needed those individuals. It was beyond that as well. I saw parents whose students graduated several years ago, and we had show choir alumni come and work numerous hours in various areas. Grandparents showed up and did their part. It was a complete community effort to make this happen. The best part? Nobody was agitated about helping. Every volunteer served with pride for our school and a desire to give our guests the best experience possible.

The comments I received from guests throughout the day confirmed my feelings that this was a very rewarding experience. I heard everything from “Central Lee is always so good to us” to “You have amazing facilities,” and even, “It took us forever to get here, but we will be back.” The experience we provided will bring people back. While the event is great for Central Lee, it also brings numerous visitors to Lee County and supports the overall economy of southeast Iowa.

At the end of the day, the Central Lee Music Department proved we can put on a premier music event that supports schools of all sizes. We can provide the customer service we expect and demand when we travel and experience new places and people. We can come together as a school community, create an experience for students to showcase their talents, and applaud others as well.
As always, I am “Proud to be Central Lee,” but Saturday night, that pride was bursting at the seams. I am already excited to do it again next year!

Thank you to everyone in the Central Lee family for your contributions, both big and small, in making this event one of the best of the year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Andy Crozier
Superintendent
