Several members of the Central Lee FFA visited with Joe Ertl(front center) recently. Ertl is the King of the scale model toy manufacturers. The Ertl Company was founded by his father, Fred ERTL when Joe Ertl was ten years old. Ertl's father, on strike from a Dubuque foundry, manufactured toys in his basement and sold them to implement dealers who gave them away as promotional items. The business grew in Dyersville from 1945 to 1967 when it was sold to Victor Comptometer Corporation. Three years later, Joe Ertl, tired of the bureaucracy of a large corporation left and started Dyersville Die Casting. The FFA group had a personal Q and A with Mr. Ertl and the students were gifted with an autographed book authored by Ertl. Aaron Countryman, Insurance Agent and Financial Planner, came to Kyle Van Ausdall's Winning the Money Game classes last week to work with his students. He works with them to establish what type of investor that they are and to discuss the pitfalls of starting to save late vs. the benefits of starting early. Aaron spends time talking with the students about investing and investing for retirement and leaving that nest egg alone in order that compound interest can work to their full advantage. He always invites them to meet with him privately in order that students may ask him specific questions in order that they can start to win their own money game. Aaron was recently presented a Service to Business Award by the IBEA (Iowa Business Educator’s Association) at their annual fall conference for his commitment to help educate students in Financial Literacy at Central Lee. #Proud2bCL #CTEworksforCL

As we start the new quarter, we are reviewing our Hawk's Place enrollment and are making plans for the coming weeks. Mrs. Lightfoot is notifying those on our waiting list as openings become available. If you originally signed up for the 2nd quarter, let her know if you are still interested and we will get your student on the enrollment list. If you did not sign up originally but are now interested, please reach out to her and we will see what days you are wanting and what the numbers are for each day. For those that signed up for the whole year we are planning on enjoying your student using the schedule from the first quarter unless she hears otherwise. Thank you!

Hawk's Place Update
Hawk's Place after school program enjoyed learning combined with food last week through community partners, ISU Extension and Elliot Test Kitchen. The younger students enjoyed the ISU Extension program's "Cooking with Kids" while students in grades 4, 5 and 6 visited Elliot Test Kitchen. They enjoyed making and eating burritos along with a math lesson game. We appreciate our community partners giving their time for our after school program students.
