Central Lee Community School District

April 7th the CLMS choir student performed in the SEI Super Conference Honor Choir under the direction of Alan Chapman, hosted by Burlington, Notre Dame. The CLMS choir has been rehearsing the music for about four weeks preparing for this festival. Student not only rehearsed and performed four selections with singers from Burlington-Notre Dame, West Burlington, and Holy Trinity, but each choir had the opportunity to showcase their individual talents by performing their own song selection.

CLHS Band students were selected to participate in the 2022 SEISC High School Select Band hosted this year by Winfield-Mt. Union CSD. Students performed under the direction of Steve Stickney, Director of Bands at Mount Mercy University. Students from the CLHS Choir Department were awarded the opportunity to perform in the SEISC High School Select Choir hosted at Mediapolis High School. The students rehearsed with student from the super conference under the direction of Dr. Nicki Bakko Toliver, Associate Professor of Music & amp; Choral Activities, Wartburg College. REMINDER: Little Hawk Preschool Registration is on Wed. April 27th from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. This is held at the K8 commons. Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 15, 2022 to enroll.

A large group of selected 6th-8th grade Central Lee Choir students participated in the Southeast Iowa Choral Directors Association honor choir festival hosted at the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel. The students rehearsed throughout the day with students from all across Southeast Iowa showcasing their talents with an evening concert.

Hawk's Place enjoyed music from special guests, Kirk Brandenburger, Brian Wagner, Dave Roth and Keating Hissem. Mrs. Fuger joined in for one song. With every new song Brian introduced the students to a new instrument. After the songs the kids enjoyed visiting with our guests, view the instruments up close and even try their hand at a few. Thank you, Kirk, Brian, Dave and Keating for sharing your musical talents with us.

Be sure to head out to the Central Lee High School Music Room this Saturday for the Xanadu 7:30 pm showing, or check it out Sunday at 2pm.

High School Golf today has been moved to Green Acres at 4 PM. Also, the Middle School Soccer game against HTC today has been relocated to South Park in West Point at 4:30 pm.

REMINDER: Tonight is Preschool Information Night at the K8 MPR at 6:00 pm. Your children may come along. They will spend time in the classrooms with the preschool teachers and associates while Mrs. Fuger shares information about our Little Hawks Program. Children must be 4 years old by September 15, 2022 to enroll.

Congratulations to our Central Lee High School 2022 Prom Court!

Central Lee Elementary 5th graders recently graduated from the DARE Program. We appreciate the efforts of Lee County Detective Sergeant Clint Wray and School Resource Officer, Deputy Evan Bentley in instructing good decision-making processes to our students through DARE. They created a positive connection and a safe space for students to ask questions. Congratulations to all students and special awardees: Leadership: Marcie Benner, Liam Crank, Kylie Hellweg, and Berlyn Manwill and Essay Winners: Annamae Timpe, Grace Schmidt, Asher Ekle , and Alayna Riley.

Mrs. Menke’s 6th grade science classes have been working in design groups to assemble building prototypes to test against “Earthquakes”. They had to make several designs solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.

Congratulations to everyone for a fantastic State FPS competition. In team packet competition, sixth graders Micah, Jackson, Caedon, and Henry were 6th in the junior division and 8th graders Addysin, Aurora, Taylor, and Peter were 4th in the middle division. Two high school teams placed. Maren, Kodi, and Lauren were 4th and Blake, Landon, and Logan were 5th. Individually, Ellie received the second place award. These girls qualified for the FPS International conference in Massachusetts in June. MacKenzie Gerber (1st) and Abigail Hand (3rd) in Scenario Writing, and Aubrey Weber (1st) in Community Problem Solving.

Several members of the Central Lee FFA and Agricultural Education Department participated in the 94th annual Iowa FFA Leadership Conference held on the campus of Iowa State University. Members received awards, advanced degrees, performed in the state chorus, qualified for State Talent, took competency exams, participated in career development events, participated in leadership development events, worked on team building activities and networked with members from across the state.
