Each May, Mrs. Wells goes to the 5th grade classrooms to help prepare them for middle school. One lesson is teaching them how to open a combination lock, which is a main stressor for kids going into middle school. This year, three 6th grades leaders helped the 5th graders learn and gain confidence in opening the locks. They were a great help!

Get a team together for a FUN night of Trivia on May 13, and help support our Future Problem Solvers International Trip!! See the Flyer for details. Contact Mrs. Ensminger to sign up a team or more information.

Our older Hawk Place students have enjoyed learning about Lego robotics with the help of instructor Amy Fraise once a week this past year. The finish of this enrichment program students took the students to the Lee County Economic Development building in Montrose to learn about robotics from Lee County Robotics Team, Lc3 Thunderbirds, comprised of students from Keokuk, Fort Madison, and Central Lee high schools. This was a unique field trip as the 4th and 5th graders learned from some of the Central Lee high school students. Thank you to the Robotics coaches and team for having us.

Congratulations to the 2023 Central Lee High School Prom King Trevor Edwards & Prom Queen Addy Brumble.

Middle School spent last Friday afternoon giving back to our community. They participated in a variety of projects and places--Bingo with Montrose Health Care and River Hills residents, community clean up projects in Keokuk, Donnellson, Montrose, Appleberry Orchard, and at school. They helped at PAWS pet shelter, Montrose Ball field, made May baskets for Montrose Health Center, and did a landscaping project at school. They were amazing, and accomplished a lot in one afternoon! We are so proud of our students, staff and parents who helped make this day a success!!

Yesterday was National School Principals Day! We want to take a moment to recognize all the incredible school principals at Central Lee. Thank you to Nicole Herdrich, Kim Ensminger, and Heather Fuger for your leadership! 😊

Hawk's Place has had a busy month and it has flown by. Students' Random Act of Kindness this month included surprising all K-5 students with an unexpected treat in all 600 lockers when they arrived the following morning, Random "eggs" of Kindness and for those testing, Egg-couragement notes "Eggs-tra treat- do your best on your tests". Students also learned about beekeeping from guest, Dave Tull and sign language from Hawk Place's Ms Abby. Thank you Dave and Abby!

Middle School conducted their Battle of the Books (BoB) competition on Wednesday. All students participated in the morning preliminary rounds, and the top two teams from each grade competed against each other and a staff team in the afternoon. Yes, the staff team retained the crown :) The top two student teams will go on to regional competition next week. Outstanding performance BoB participants and winners, and a huge THANK YOU to Ms. Gunther, Mrs. Massey & Mrs. Derr for all their work in organizing and coordinating the battle!
