It is with great pride we welcome Joan Chatfield Ealy into the 2024 Academic Hall of Fame!
A 1982 co-valedictorian and student leader, Joan served as Student Council treasurer and president, where she led the effort to build the high school’s first concession stand. She was also president of the National Honor Society, vice president of both the Spanish and Science clubs, and earned the State of Iowa Scholar designation with an impressive ACT score of 30.
Joan graduated summa cum laude from Monmouth College in 1986, earning honors in psychology and physical education and receiving awards like the Mortar Board Outstanding Senior Woman Award and the American Association of University Women Prize. She also excelled in athletics as a four-year letter winner and team captain in both volleyball and track.
Joan went on to earn her Master’s in Public Administration from Penn State in 1988 and served a distinguished career with the U.S. Marshals Service.
We are honored to recognize such an accomplished and inspiring CLHS alum!
Each year, the Iowa Department of Education evaluates all public schools in the state through its School Performance Profiles. Schools are graded across several key performance indicators, much like a report card.
In 2024, Central Lee ranked well above the state average with the following overall performance scores:
⬆️CLHS: 687.46 points / 900 = 76.38%
⬆️CLMS: 487.85 points / 700 = 66.84%

Central Lee High School achieved “High Performing” status for the second year in a row, while Central Lee Middle School earned a designation of “Commendable.” Both performed significantly above the state average across all public schools, with CLHS ranking third among the state’s high schools!

On Tuesday, November 19th, students from Central Lee's Business Law class were hosted at the Keokuk Courthouse. We were able to hear about a variety of jobs in the legal system, legal processes, interesting backstories from the professionals we met, and we were given a personal tour of the facility. Thank you to Judge Stensvaag and the rest of the staff at the Courthouse. #CTEworksforCL #Proud2bCL
Check out the level of engagement in our high school chemistry class! This past summer, the district renovated our high school science classrooms to include a classroom space and a separate lab space. The classrooms include state-of-the-art lab equipment, working utilities, and high-end technology.
If you haven't seen the rooms, we will host an open house during a high school basketball game this winter. Be on the lookout for this event date soon!
Jacob Vollmer’s apprenticeship, through our Work-Based Learning Program, at J.J. Nichting Company has helped launch him forward to his future career. His hands on learning of the skills, knowledge, and experience it takes to be successful as a diesel tech has given him a leg up in life. Jacob is looking forward to continuing this career path because he says, “There hasn’t been a day I haven’t liked working there.” #CTEworksforCL #Proud2bCL
