On Wednesday, May 8, two 8th grade teams represented Central Lee Middle School at the Regional Battle of the Books competition hosted by the Great Prairie AEA. It was held at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center in Fairfield, Iowa. Our teams competed against about 15 other teams in school districts and placed 3rd overall.
Both teams have worked hard the past couple of months reading 16 books from a list the GPAEA put together. They have really enjoyed the experience and we are grateful for the opportunity the GPAEA has provided for our students!
The winning team consisted of Quinn Gates, Macy Anderson, Chloee Haigh, Aubree Perkins, Ava Derr, and Hope Juarez.
The other team that competed consisted of Afton Maynes, Eliza Wagner, Evelyn Adkins, Rachel Buch, and Avery Hopp.

First grade students enjoyed Agriculture Exploration Day last week. Students from Keokuk and Keokuk Catholic schools visited each station in the morning, then Central Lee students participated in the afternoon. The emphasis of the day was the importance of agriculture to our daily lives.
Presenters included: Ag Crops (Gavin Burgess of Precision Planting and student helpers Allison Gruntmeir and Sienna Riley), Beef production (adult presenter Sparky Wellman and students Aubrey Weber and Shanna Buford), Greenhouse operations (Deborah Whitaker and Halie Coulter), a tractor hayrack ride (Justin Snider and Nathan Newberry), Water Conservation activity provided by Lee County Farm Bureau (presenters Landon Rudd and Jalyn Hawk), Importance of Trees (LeAnn Winters of the NRCS office and Ward Fraise), Dairy Production and Milk Mustaches (with Shannon Wellman and Owen Krogmeier of Krogmeier Dairy—student helpers Chase Clark and Jaciann Hawk) A puppet show on Swine Production by Liza Alton of the Lee County Pork Producers.
